INTERVIEWS

Hello Càlin! How the idea of founding Necrovile got into your head and how would you describe its patronime?

The idea of Necrovile took form in 2001 when together with Daniel Borodi, the vocalist, we thought about jamming some death metal tunes. This came out as a result to the fact that both of us were death metal listeners and we have also played in some local bands before. I wrote the first two songs, Daniel added the brutal gruntings, and after that we recorded a demo (Extreme Meal Dismemberment). He also came out with the name, Necrovile being synonym with a gruesome journey into the darkest spheres of the human mind.

Taking in consideration that Necrovile was born in 2001 when black metal with all its sub-genres was extremely used worldwide, when the death metal scene was in a sort of stand- by, what made you to start a brutal slam death metal combo and what the main musical influences you had at that time?

We simply didn’t care about any trends, just wanted to play what we liked most, and that was death metal. We were strongly influenced by Suffocation, Deeds of Flesh, Dying Fetus, Monstrosity, but we were also trying to add our own point of view to this brutal music.

Just one year later the first demo ¨Extreme Metal Dismemberment¨ was released and received quite good reviews from the underground metal scene. How would you describe this first release and what will be the important review you received at that time?

We recorded two songs and started promoting them in a few local metal clubs. People began wondering who the hell was playing and soon after, some local promoters got interested in our music. This led to a promotion contract offered by Mirgilus Siculorum Productions.

Shortly after, Mirgilius Siculorum Records got in touch with you, as ou already mentioned above, and proposed you to release your second effort, a MCD, entitled ¨ Into the Gory Scripts¨ through their roaster! Tell us a few words about this release too, and try to compare the MCD to your first demo. What will be in your point of view the main differences between both releases and how the extreme metal media received this second material signed Necrovile?

The songs that we put on the "Into the Gory Scripts" MCD were recorded at home using an amplifier and a PC, the same recording process used on the first demo, but the sound on the MCD is slightly improved. I wrote the music and Daniel came up with some really sick lyrics and a gory cover and in no time we got a contract from Mirgilus Siculorum Records. The MCD was distributed worldwide, got a few positive reviews and it got to farther countries like Japan, Mexico or Brazil. We’re still receiving e-mails from people asking if it’s still available.

Meanwhile, you brought a bass player as permanent member, I mentioned here Ela Paraschiv, and you' ve been joined by Florin Gheorghita as drummer and Radu Vulpe on second guitar! What could you tell us about this new members and their musical background?

About their musical background at that time not much, really, because we were all at the beginning, we played in small local bands before, but nothing worth mentioning. In the meantime, well, Ela founded Clitgore, a goregrind band, Florin plays in Malpraxis (death metal) and Radu formed a thrash combo, Decease, all these bands are active in the scene, doing shows and releasing albums as well.

Soon after that your first full- length ¨ The Pungency of Carnage¨ was ready and United Guttural Records from U.S.A. proposed you to release it worldwide! Please introduce us the new baby born and give us a few details about your deal with U.G. Records!

About the album, what can I tell you, it speaks for itself. Nine brutal songs, a gruesome artwork and a bonus pro-shoot video from Darkbound Underground Metal Messe in Germany. Regarding the deal with United Guttural, I’ve sent a promo to a few labels and after two hours we had the first response, and it came from United Guttural Records. Since we knew their releases very well we decided to sign with UG regardless the responses we’ve received from the other labels in the meantime. Alex from United Guttural is a very cool person and since the beginning of the collaboration with him everything went really ok. He’s done a professional job for us and we’re more than satisfied.

Almost 2 years later we found Necrovile still playing and promoting live this first professional record, but soon after Daniel Borodi ( v- band founder), Ela and Florin decided to part ways with Necrovile too! What will be the main reason for their departures and how you managed to continue band' s activity?

The departures of the three members didn’t come as a surprise, it all happened in time. Daniel moved to another city and because his job was really time- consuming he couldn’t come to concerts that often. Ela decided to focus more on her band I told you about, Clitgore, which in the meantime got a contract with the USA label Gore House Production and on June 10th they are going to release the first full- lenght. Not to mention the fact that Clitgore’s live activity is pretty impressive for a new- founded band, they managed to play a lot of gigs in Europe, and this year they will play at the mighty Obscene Extreme Festival. With Florin we parted ways because of some musical differences, but despite all that, we’re still good friends and we play together with his band whenever we get the chance. Also, Daniel still writes some of the lyrics for Necrovile. For the last album he wrote the lyrics for six songs and even though he now lives in Germany we see each other from time to time. And with Ela, what can I tell you, she’s my wife, I also play in her band, Clitgore, so everything’s cool.
Since the departures didn’t come unexpected, me and Radu already started working on the songs for the second album and soon had them ready for recording.

With all these problems you found the power to write new songs for your second album entitled ¨ Engorging the Devourmental Void¨! Please introduce us this new material by telling to our readers the story tracks and give us a few technical details concerning the creation and the recording processes.

I think the second album is a natural continuation of the previous one, it gets the musical ideas from the first and takes them to a different level.
The story is that of a psychopath cannibal serial killer who begins to feel haunted by the memories of those whom he tortured, cut to pieces and eaten. These recollections of dead eaten beings emerge as scavengers upon his own conscience, torturing and devouring him repeatedly, until his whole world of emotions becomes nothing but an endless void. At one point he decides to fight back and repress these malignant thoughts by mentally re-engorging the memories of him feasting upon the flesh of his victims.

We recorded the guitars, the bass and the vocals at Necrovile studio, a home studio that I put up in my basement. The recording of the drum tracks, the mix and master were done at Convulsound Production in France.

If I' m not wrong your new drummer well known Kevin Foley (Benighted, Nervecell, Mumakill) joined Necrovile as a session member his playing style bringing to your musical universe a new dimension! How you got in touch with Kev and how would you describe his apport to ¨Engorging the Devourmental Void¨ final result?

We were searching for a drummer when we came across Kevin’s announcement that he was available for recording and playing live with bands that were interested. We knew Kevin from Disavowed and Benighted, seen him live with both bands and we were amazed by his abilities as a musician, so we talked to him, asked him if he wants to record and play with Necrovile. He agreed, we sent him the guitar tracks, and after that he wrote the drum parts and recorded the drums for the album in just three days. Kevin’s contribution to this album is huge, we were extremely enthusiastic about the final result.

The new product is a masterpiece of brutality , a mixture of pure violence and catchy rhythms; a musical universe that can easily be compared to U.S. masters Lividity or Malignancy! What the response of the exteme metal media was and how do you see ¨ Engorging the Devourmental Void¨ compared to its predecesor ¨ The Pungency of Carnage¨ ?

On "Engorging the Devourmental Void" we tried to record everything as professionally as possible, and I think there’s a noticeable improvement in terms of sound, when compared to the first album. The metal media’s response exceeded our expectations, the album received many nice words from the press.

After a very active live period you decided to release a
video- clip for the title track, ¨ Engorging the Devourmental Void¨ , which can be seen since january 2013 through different metal channels! How the idea came into your mind and how do you think that this video -clip helped you to develop your audience?

We were on a small tour in Europe that started in Romania, in our home town, so we thought it was a good opportunity to shoot a video as a promo for the upcoming album. It was a good decision because we didn’t have a record deal at that moment and it really helped us get the promotion we needed. In the meantime we just released a second video related to the latest album, this time with a live sound, with Septimiu Hărșan on drums. So if anyone wonders how we sound live, go check out Necrovile – Fresh Gutted Fuck (Official Live Video).

Shortly after you signed a deal with Czech Lacerated Enemy Records who officialy released ¨ Engorging the Devourmental Void¨ on 28 june 2013! Why you decided to join their roaster and how do you think this label will help Necrovile in the near future?

We decided to sign with an European label that could help us get more promotion on the European scene. The deal with Lacerated Enemy Records was really good, the label manager, Zdenek, is a very cool guy, he’s already done a lot of promotion for Necrovile and we’re totally satisfied with his work. I’m sure he’ll help us a lot in the future.

What can you tell us about the promotional live activity you had since ¨Engorging the Devourmental Void¨ was released and how specialized media received your album?

Well, since the release we played in some European countries and had live appearances at a few festivals. The media received the album extremely well, we got a lot of positive reviews so far.

As I can see you have about 100 gigs already at your active and you shared the stage with famous names such as: Vader, Suffocation, Nile, Master, Sepultura and many others. I suppose that plenty of those bands were your idols years ago; how do you feel about that and what will be the most impressive show you saw all this time?

Of course, sharing the stage with the bands we’ve listened to since we were kids was a dream come true, we learned a lot from those shows. Even though I can say that I was impressed by many of the famous bands we played with, the most important for me was the opening for Suffocation, since they are without doubt a big musical influence for us.

As you already told me in a private discussion you just entered from some fests you were invited lately and you already prepare new one next month in Slovakia at FleshParty OpenAir! What should we know about that and what other live actions do you prepare in the near future?

We played at some crazy festivals, Transylvanian Death Fest, Holsteiner Death Fest, SzegeDEATHFest in the last month or so, and we’re preparing, as you said, for Flesh Party Open Air, which I know for sure it will be really fun. We’ll try to play live as much as possible and in the near future we plan on doing another European tour.

You also revealed me that you have some ideas for the new record! What should we expect from your new full- length and when it will be ready?

Regarding the writing process for the next album, we’ve already got some ideas, started putting them together and so far things are looking pretty heavy, brutal and catchy. I think that there’s a chance we’ll finish it next year, but we’ll see.

Man, that will be all for now! Ihope to hear good news from you as ssoon as possible and, why not, to see Necrovile live if you step in Paris in the near future. In the end I' ll give you the last word to conclude the interview! Thank you so much and keep the burning flame live!

Thank you very much for the interview, keep up the great work in supporting the extreme metal scene and I hope we’ll get the chance to meet you at one of our concerts. Cheers!
